Joeys Summer Netball Competition

Thank you to those who have already contacted me with expressions of interest and numbers of players so far. If you only have a few girls interested then please don’t hesitate to email me and I will forward the contact details of other coaches and managers in the same or similar age groups for you to contact as they may be in a similar situation. Also, please remember you are allowed to ask players outside of the Joeys camp.

There are a limited number of second hand uniforms available for new players in summer comp. Anyone wishing to purchase uniform items please contact Fran Blayney by email at fblayney@optusnet.com.au

Secretary’s Report Day 11

I finally made it down to Seymour Shaw to see our youngest members in action. The skills learnt from the Net Set Go program were being beautifully implemented with tenacity and enthusiasm. In the short time I was there Joeys put 3 goals in over the both teams whilst their competitors were yet to score. I am not sure who got more excited when the ball entered the ring, the spectators or the players! Either way the atmosphere was everything children sports should be- lots of energy and joy. Thank you to all involved for enjoying the sport we love so much. And thank you to Jo Henderson and her team of teenage helpers who have laid a solid foundation of netball skills for our youngest players to draw from.

It is round 12 this coming Saturday with only 3 games left in the season. There are 16 teams out of 24 that play on the hard courts who are on track to make the finals series. This is a huge achievement as a club. Should any coach need assistance in preparing their team for this series, please feel free to contact Liza James or myself to discuss how the club can assist. We often have experienced coaches at the courts between their own daughters games who would be happy to come and watch your team and offer advice.  Remember, we are in this together!

Good luck to our 10A’s and 12A’s who are heading to Blacktown very early Sunday morning for the carnival. We wish you the best of luck!!

8s and 9s Netball Gala Day

Our three Netta teams will be entering in the carnival. This is a great effort from the girls, it shows how much they are enjoying their netball. Well done coaches. The guidelines for it are below:

  • The 8 and 9’s annual Gala Day will be held on Sunday 23rd June at the Bellingara Courts. The day commences at 8.30am with a March Past. The games kick off at 9am and finish by 2pm.
  • Each team is required to pay their umpire $40 on the day. This is the only cost incurred for the day. The umpires will be organised by the club.
  • The draw is to be collected from control by the team manager at the beginning of the day.

Players should assemble in Club order on Courts 13-20 from 8.30am – coaches and managers are the only people who should accompany the players to the assembly point.

Trophies will be awarded for the March Past winners and runners-up, and for the Best Club Mascot.

Blacktown Carnival

I have been speaking to one of our coaches about entering teams of 10 years and up in the Blacktown Carnival to be held on Sunday 28th July. Carnivals are a great way to prepare for the finals series. I have copied the details from the Blacktown Netball Association Website for you below. Can coaches please discuss this with your team, should you be interested you need to get onto the SSNA website which has a link to the forms that need to be filled out? The completed form needs to be forwarded to myself as soon as possible with payment of $33 per team. Entries must go to SSNA via the club secretary six weeks prior to the carnival date so please don’t delay. The only other cost would be to pay for the umpire for the day, these details will be supplied upon application.

BCNA CARNIVAL – Sunday 28th July 2013
Blacktown City Netball Association are holding an All Age District Carnival – Junior (10-16years) & Senior teams. Please note that Blacktown City Netball Association are only accepting club teams into this carnival. The district carnival will be held on Sunday 28th July 2013 at International Peace Park, Cnr Boyd & Devitt Streets, Blacktown (next to Blacktown Aquatic Centre) commencing at 8.30am.

Secretary’s Report Day 5

I hope both players and their families are enjoying the spirit of the game as we approach half way in the season. The weather has been good to us so far and hopefully will continue to do so. The temperature at the 8am games are a challenge now so coaches please encourage the girls to get there in plenty of time to warm up in order to prevent injury. I have placed each team’s results on the ladder in this newsletter just to have a look at the bigger picture. It’s great to see so many of our teams competitive. For coaches who feel this is not the case and  wish to discuss the progress of their team or have a mentor at training or at a game, please contact me at joeysnetball@hotmail.com.

Remember to encourage the girls that in team sport it’s important for all to represent the club well and play to the best of their ability!

Players Wanted – 15/16 Years

If anyone knows girls turning 15 or 16 years this year who are interested in playing netball can you please ask them to contact me as a matter of urgency or forward me their details so I can contact them? Injury is playing havoc to some of our players in teams with only 7 players and it would be great to recruit an eighth player for these teams to avoid borrowing.

Secretary’s Report Day 4

I hope everyone is into the swing of the season and players and their families are enjoying the competition and friendships that team sport promotes. Welcome aboard to Jodie Craig and Joanne Vasquez who late registered last week in our B2’s. I happened to be privy to watching their talents at the 4pm game at the Ridge on Saturday. Jo and Jodie, your basketball skills were very noticeable, just remember there are length restrictions in netball as to how far you can throw the ball!!!!!

Thank you to Alani Sullivan and Brittany Robertson for playing in the PWD team. The game would not have been able to go ahead without your generosity; I would like to commend the honour you brought to our club through your charitable ways.

Coaching Drills

The Net Set Go program purchased by the club has some great coaching resources that Jo Henderson has kindly copied and passed on to me to distribute. Any coaches interested in a copy can collect them from me. I am at Bellingara courts coaching on Tuesday and Thursday or at Bellingara most of Saturday. Please email me if this doesn’t suit to make other arrangements.

Also don’t forget the great resource we have at Energy Netball, www.energynetball.com.au.

New Format Score Sheets – Some Pointers

The SSNA are still finding errors on score sheets. Can managers and others who assist at times please read through these necessary details:

The positions of the 7 players on the court should be completed each quarter. If you have only been completing the first quarter and have 8 players, then SSNA will just assume only 7 players played the entirety of the game. This could have adverse effects on players during the finals quarters

Put dashes in the quarters next to those players who are away or having a turn off

If you are borrowing a player(s), place their name and their regular team in the space provided at the bottom of the score sheet and record the positions played in each quarter (eg Charlotte Bishop, 12A)
