8s & 9s Gala Day

We entered our three 8’s teams  and one 9’s into the gala day on Sunday 15th June. The girls and their families arrived at 8.15am to prepare for the March Past oblivious to the cold winter conditions!! Despite the chill in the air the girls’ spirits were high with excitement.   I believe we owe thanks to Niamh Bryce -Stark and Charlotte Bulmer who were wonderful in their efforts to rally up the girls and get into the spirit of the March Past. Their efforts were recognised by the selectors who chose Joeys as the winners of the march past and the proud new owners of the perpetual trophy.  Luckily  several games were played and lolly bags were distributed before being rained out!  Sounds like it was a young netballers dream come true!

Round 4 with the 13C1’s

13 C1sWell after what was a 4 week break due to holidays and a bye, the 13C1’s took to the court on a sunny morning with loads of energy and enthusiasm.  In what was a very quick 1st quarter the girls got out to a good lead, despite a few rusty throws.  This lead was held in the 2nd and 3rd quarters with excellent defence shown by everyone on the court.  Although we did tire a little in the fourth quarter and the lead slipped away from us, it was still a gutsy effort from all involved .

Molly showed improved movement around the goal circle and worked hard to ensure a good shooting position was obtained.  Molly was teamed with Laura Jane in the 1st quarter who displayed excellent support play to Molly, before moving to WA where she worked hard both in attack and defence.  Lily followed Laura-Jane into the GA position from the 2nd quarter and displayed accurate shooting in this role.  Her combination with Molly formed nicely throughout the game and can only 13 C1s. 10improve as we move further into the season.

Emma B and Saskia formed a dynamic combination in the C and WA positions in the 1st half.  Both girls were everywhere on the court, showing speed and agility in their play.  Emma B, despite not feeling the best, kept her opposition on their toes and moved tirelessly up and down the court, whilst Saskia was assertive in breaking free to receive the centre passes and was gutsy to play on after a nasty fall.  Jessica also showed her versatility throughout the game, taking on the positions of WD and GK.  She was excellent defensively and tough even when her opponents were quite aggresive in their playing style Well done girls!!

Jessica showed her versatility throughout the game, taking on the positions of WD and GK.  She was excellent defensively and tough even when her opponents were quite aggresive in their playing style,

Brittany, also with a 1st quarter face plant, was as usual tight in defence, making life difficult for her opponents to move around the goal circle and get their shots in before moving to WD and then back to GK to finish the game.

E13 C1s. 14mma P worked well with Britty in defence and is really starting to display a good understanding of her position.   She displayed greater movement in the 3rd and 4th quarters, applying greater pressure to the shooters.

Despite, possibly not the outcome that we had hoped for or which was indicative of the first 3 quarters, the 13C1’s are starting to gel very well together and are becoming more aware of each individual’s style and type of play.  Our rebounds at both ends of the court are improving and enabled us to have far more ball possession in this game.

Of course, many thanks to Annabelle for her fabulous efforts at training and in preparing our girls each Saturday, your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Great job girls and keep up the great team work!!

Lipton Iced Tea

Lipton have sponsored the club by donating two pallets of their original and new Lipton Iced Tea. We would like to pass this on to members as a token of appreciation of your support by offering  each team up to 3 cases of either of these products to share amongst your players. Lisa Burden has kindly taken the delivery and would love your support to help distribute it as soon as possible. Could we ask the managers to pick up this stock from Lisa’s either on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night after 6pm. Lisa might fill her boot with some for Friday to distribute to those who train on the same day as her team.

Please contact Anne Bishop for more details

Filling in Score Sheets

Please ensure you complete:

  • the positions of the 7 players who take the court each quarter
  • PRINT the names of the umpires and scorers, this really helps if difficulties arise later
  • When borrowing, write the name of the borrowed player AND the team they are registered in,  in the space provided at the bottom.
  • Another borrowing  rule that we forgot to mention at the coaches and managers meeting is that of a borrowed player who is playing her first and only game for the day. If a borrowed player has a bye in her own team then she can be borrowed to play for another team as an 8th player. This is very helpful to know if your team only has 7 players so please look carefully at the Day Sheet each week and check the teams who have a bye.If she takes the court please sign her on please make sure you write (first game) next to her name as well as the grade she is registered in. Please contact me for if you wish to use this  borrowing so I can keep tab of the number of times players are borrowed and advise accordingly

Round 3 with the 13B1’s

13B1c13b1a

Despite the miserable conditions at “Bellingara Baths”, Joeys 13B1s were “on fire” this week, producing a comprehensive win over The Flames 26-9!

Whilst everyone started out tenderly due to the slippery court surface, it didn’t take long for Joeys to find their rhythm.  Our shooters – Indianna and Ashleigh – hardly missed a goal!  In defence, Carmen, Brooke and Zoe were lethal.  And in mid court, Roisin, Lana and Kaitlyn did a great job moving the ball up and down the court.  There were a couple of silly passing mistakes but, overall a great effort by all under very difficult playing conditions.

The girls are working well as a team, listening at training and improving each week.  Well done to each of you for doing your best, trying new positions and of course, congrats to our fabulous coaches – Sharon and Meg – for bringing the best out in our lovely team!

Our Player of the Match this week was Ashleigh – well done Ash!

Round 3 with 8-3 Hunter

8-3 HunterA wet and chilly start. The first quarter saw a couple of early goals by St. Catherine’s, but Joey’s had good defence from Chloe, Alex H. and Kaiya. Emma showed great determination as Centre. Amelia and Laura were fantastic as attack in goals.

Plenty of goal shooting attempts from Joey’s and we dominated ball possession throughout the second quarter. Alex L. played a great third quarter, taking a bit of a slide getting the ball. The fourth quarter was fast paced with St.Catherine’s shooting another two goals.

Alana did a brilliant job as WA and then as Centre and was player of the day. All girls played well, trying their best and most importantly having lots of fun. Thanks to mums Sharon and Kylie for their sideline support. A great team effort!

PLAYERS STILL NEEDED

We have had much success recruiting suitable players for our teams with only seven players. However  we are still looking for players who are turning 12 this season. Should you know of anyone who may be interested in playing could you please contact me as soon as possible.

BORROWING PLAYERS

For those teams who need to borrow a player, please refer to the rules below

To take the court, a team needs 5 original players. In this case they are allowed to borrow TWO players from lower graded or aged teams (see 2nd game rules). If you have 6 original players then you are only allowed to borrow ONE player. This means that at any time when a team is borrowing, there is no 8th player or reserve unless the team the player is borrowed from has a bye that week and the game becomes their first and only.

Borrowed players must have their photo sighted and  be signed on at control BEFORE the game. Their name, usual grade and position they are playing needs to be added to the scoresheet.

A player can only be borrowed TWICE by any one team. Should they be borrowed a third time by the same team then they automatically become part of that team and cannot return to their original team.

Could I remind all coaches to contact me about borrowing players and also keep a record of borrowed players in your folder to avoid memory lapses and disappointment later in the season?

The 2nd Game Rule for 2014 has been forwarded to coaches; it should also available on the SSNA website.

Some of our coaches have expressed interest in attending Blacktown Carnival on 27th July from 8.30am to 4.30pm atInternational Peace Park. This is open to club  teams aged 10-16 years.

Two teams attended this carnival last  year and raved about the fun and community atmosphere that it promoted. The parents worked together to organise the food, tents and a bbq for all involved and will more than likely do so again.

Should any teams be interested in attending please contact Lisa Burden at lisa.burden@macquarie.com

Our next general committee meeting is set for Monday 2nd June at 7.30pm at Kareela Golf Club. You are very welcome!

Round 1 with the 18-1’s Division 3

Firstly a big welcome to our new players , Bethany , Amy , Mikaela and Caitlin , and Welcome back to my girls Carina , Elyse , Jess , Tash and Lani.

So we have a whole new defence end this year , with big boots to fill , but they  proved themselves yesterday . Having never played together before Mikaela , Bethany and Amy shut down Connells Pt attack only letting them score 13 goals. I can only get excited about what we will be able to achieve this season when they become more familiar with each other.

The mid court also did an outstanding job , not only in  defence where many times we intercepted or forced errors but the speed and accuracy that you guys brought the ball down the court was very impressive. The shooting circle looked as comfortable as ever , Carina and Elyse just work so effortlessly together that they are hard to contain.

Lani just walked back into the team without a hitch , teaming with Tash they just found space all over the court. I love the way these girls back each other up throughout the game and Jess & Caitlin were always there helping to bring the ball down the court.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could have another fabulous season , much like the past 2 , who knows if we keep it up maybe GF no 3 , I have great faith in you guys!!
