Secretary’s Report Day 11

I finally made it down to Seymour Shaw to see our youngest members in action. The skills learnt from the Net Set Go program were being beautifully implemented with tenacity and enthusiasm. In the short time I was there Joeys put 3 goals in over the both teams whilst their competitors were yet to score. I am not sure who got more excited when the ball entered the ring, the spectators or the players! Either way the atmosphere was everything children sports should be- lots of energy and joy. Thank you to all involved for enjoying the sport we love so much. And thank you to Jo Henderson and her team of teenage helpers who have laid a solid foundation of netball skills for our youngest players to draw from.

It is round 12 this coming Saturday with only 3 games left in the season. There are 16 teams out of 24 that play on the hard courts who are on track to make the finals series. This is a huge achievement as a club. Should any coach need assistance in preparing their team for this series, please feel free to contact Liza James or myself to discuss how the club can assist. We often have experienced coaches at the courts between their own daughters games who would be happy to come and watch your team and offer advice.  Remember, we are in this together!

Good luck to our 10A’s and 12A’s who are heading to Blacktown very early Sunday morning for the carnival. We wish you the best of luck!!

President’s Report Day 10

Welcome Back Everyone!  It seems quite some time since we all had a game of netball due to the wet weather and school holidays, which of course I hope you enjoyed!

How fantastic it was to find us blessed with wonderful weather for the busy schedule of netball!!! Friday afternoon Net Set Go; Saturday was Round 9 and 10 being played for many of our teams; the Nursery Teams participating in their games and on Sunday the 8 and 9’s Gala Day! Hopefully everyone had a great time playing  on Saturday with some pleasing results. It is hard to play two games in 1!!!

On Sunday our 8’s and 9’s looked great participating in the March Past and enjoyed themselves playing their rounds of games. Thank you to all involved for helping make this day so successful.

To all Coaches, managers and umpires we thank you enormously for your efforts so far this season and  in anticipation for the remaining weeks.

Also we have some new volunteers stepping up to help out for which the Club is very grateful.  Thank you.

Ashlee Tozer and Hayley Attenborough participated in the U15’s State Age Championships. Congratulations to both of these girls who came away with many great experiences and luckily not too serious injuries!  Look out for these girls as I am sure they would love to chat to you about the Championships.

Don’t forget to look up on the website for photos of the girls!

This week finds Joeys Club down for canteen duty. It is fantastic this year that we have tried to take up the challenge that we have no managers or coaches in the canteen! I know we are all busy but this can be seen as a token of our appreciation to our Coaches and Managers on the behalf of our girls. Thank you everyone for your support.

On behalf of the Club, Good Luck and have a wonderful day on Sunday to our 3 Netta Teams. They will participating in the 8 and 9 Netball Gala Day.

Good Luck to all for Day 9. Continue to enjoy playing ,umpiring, watching and supporting this great game netball!

Thank you to Rodney Forrester

A big thank you goes out to Rodney Forrester for entering the club in a netball competition sponsored by ANZ. He wrote a poem as our entry which perfectly sums up our club and Joeys spirit. Read below a copy of the poem that Rodney entered.

Joey’s is a special club in the Sutherland Shire

Grand final day 2012 we were on fire

Three teams won the day

Joey’s certainly knew how to play

Joey’s encourages all ages and all grades

Our club gets new players in spades

The net set go program was taken up by our young girls

They had so much fun, certainly made the ball whirl

Joey’s is a great club where our girls

enjoy being in a team

You can see when they play their faces gleam

The equipment and grant would help our club continue to grow

Cos more and more girls want to join Joey’s you know

What better way to keep fit in the sun

Joey’s team would continue to have fun

The equipment and grant would help the players improve

Each week the girls would be in the netball groove

Joey’s is the team for your girl to join

With ANZ netball you’ll have more coin

8s and 9s Netball Gala Day

Our three Netta teams will be entering in the carnival. This is a great effort from the girls, it shows how much they are enjoying their netball. Well done coaches. The guidelines for it are below:

  • The 8 and 9’s annual Gala Day will be held on Sunday 23rd June at the Bellingara Courts. The day commences at 8.30am with a March Past. The games kick off at 9am and finish by 2pm.
  • Each team is required to pay their umpire $40 on the day. This is the only cost incurred for the day. The umpires will be organised by the club.
  • The draw is to be collected from control by the team manager at the beginning of the day.

Players should assemble in Club order on Courts 13-20 from 8.30am – coaches and managers are the only people who should accompany the players to the assembly point.

Trophies will be awarded for the March Past winners and runners-up, and for the Best Club Mascot.
